Country Style BBQ Pork Ribs
Cooking spray
1 tablespoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon paprika
2 tablespoons Splenda
1 tablespoon chili powder
1 tablespoon black pepper
½ teaspoon kosher salt
½ teaspoon cayenne pepper
½ teaspoon cumin
2 tablespoons brown mustard
2 tablespoons low-carb beer
1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
1 medium onion, thinly sliced
2 lbs of country style pork spareribs or baby back ribs
1. Coat the slow cooker with cooking spray, set aside.
2. In a small mixing bowl, combine all remaining ingredients except onions and ribs, blend well to make a paste. Rub spice mixture all over ribs, one at a time, then place into slow cooker. Continue with all the ribs and remaining spice mixture. Sprinkle onions on top of ribs in slow cooker.
3. Cover and cook on low heat for 8 hours.
What I did....... I forgot to coat the crock
I didn't have any beer so I substituted water but then I decided to add 1/2 inch of water to the bottom of the crock without disturbing the rub....... I was thinking that apple juice might be a good too.
I used sugar instead of Splenda.
I usually have a really nice Hungarian paprika but I was all out and I didn't have any brown mustard so I used yellow mustard powder in the rub and sprinkled brown mustard seed over the onions.
I used baby back ribs and kept the whole piece intact instead of sectioning and rubbing each individually....... I think the flavor still reached every tender morsel of meat
Today was the first time making this...... even with the alterations to the recipe it was delicious!
