~ Sloppy Joes ~
* My 9 year old son made these for us one night. The recipe comes from Paula Deen's My First Cookbook. It was delicious! Even younger cooks can use the stove with adult supervision. Just remind them to keep their hands away from the skillet (they have a tendency to forget that it gets hot). I feel my son is not quite old enough to use a sharp knife so I did the chopping.
Ingredients
1 small onion, chopped 1 lb. ground beef 2/3 c. ketchup 2 T. yellow mustard 4 - 6 hamburger buns, depending on how much meat you put on each bun
Put the hamburger and onion in the skillet and heat to medium. Stir it all around with the spoon until every bit of pink in the hamburger has disappeared. Break up any large chunks of meat with the spoon. Let the adult helper drain the fat from the pan.
Add the ketchup and mustard and stir until it is mixed. Let this cook over the lowest heat for about 5 minutes. Put the mixture on the bun and enjoy!
