This is something I'd make as Patrick was growing up, not wanting to give him store bought, additive loaded cereals. He had some dietary issues & it was simply easier to make it myself than to try to shop with a rowdy, I-hate-shopping boy! ;D This makes about 10 cups & is a mix of recipes from other moms & Mrs Swarr of Mt Joy PA Healthier CerealHeat oven to 350F. Parchment/Silpat lined half sheet cake pan (jelly roll pan) 1. 5 cups oatmeal 2. 1 cup powdered milk 3. 1 cup unsweetened coconut--in the health food section, or use reg 4. 1 cup sesame seeds 5. 1 cup sunflower seeds 6. 1 cup wheat germ 7. 1 cup soy flour--health food section 8. 1 cup honey or brown sugar 9. 1 cup canola oil; some people prefer peanut oil Dump everything into a bowl & stir well. I'm lazy & use the KitchenAid stand mixer fitted w/the paddle Put into pan, bake for about 10 min, stir, then bake another 5 - 10 min or until just browned You can serve this warm, right out of the oven or cool & store in an airtight container in the 'fridge. Ta da! Optional: add dried fruits, such as apricots, craisins, chopped dates, etc When I add nuts--walnuts, pecans, almonds--I'll toast them in a saute pan w/a little oil or butter or Promise, THEN add to the finished cereal.
