~ Tuna Melts ~
* Another recipe from Paula Deen's My First Cookbook - tested by my 9 year old son. We've made a few changes to the recipe. Thumbs up from everyone!
Ingredients
2 six ounce cans tuna, drained 1 c. grated sharp cheddar cheese 1/4 c. mayonnaise 4 buns (hamburger, hot dog, or hoagie rolls) 1 c. crushed potato chips (you can add some chopped onion and celery if you like - we opted out)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Put the tuna into a bowl. Add the cheese and mayo and mix with a spoon.
Spoon about 1/8th of the tuna onto each half of a bun. Repeat with all of the buns. Place the buns on a cookie sheet. Sprinkle some potato chip crumbs onto each tuna-topped bun. Bake in the oven for about 10 minutes.
My husband made this with our son and he thought the recipe called for not putting the top and bottom buns together. So, that's how they made them. The recipe actually said to put the lids on before baking, but we really thought it was more fun eating them open-faced.
